Distance: 65 miles and 3300 feet of elevation gain (barometric)
Today the long and the medium routes are the same for the first 29 miles. Together they first travel over to Diamond Bar and then down to the University. After a loop around the campus they continue together over a few hills (Grand and Covina Hills to name two – the spikes at 17 miles & 23 miles on the profile) and over to Puddingstone Reservoir for a break. A few miles after passing the county fairgrounds, the two routes finally split. This long heads out towards Chino to have lunch in Chino Hills. After lunch, the long does a little more climbing by first going over Carbon Canyon (the spike at 44 miles) and then Brea Canyon. Neither is too difficult and the Carbon Canyon climb rewards a two mile climb with an eight mile downhill. A final climb over Brea Canyon Cutoff (the last spike on the profile) and it is a few more downhill miles back to the start. You can see by the profile that this is a fairly hilly route, but the hills are spaced out throughout the route giving you some nice breathers in between.
