Distance: 53 miles and 700 feet of elevation gain (mapping software)
This half century stays with the metric century for the first 21 miles. This is a fairly flat as we work our way south east down to Irvine. When this route splits off, it stops for an early lunch and then takes the San Diego Creek Trail to rejoin the metric century route. The two routes stay together on the return but there is an optional later lunch on this half century route. This includes a few more miles of bike trails before we head to the coast in Newport Beach and take PCH back to the start. This route cuts out most of the climbing of the full century and has about the same amount of climbing as the metric century. Note that the high point in the center of the profile is less than 200 feet above sea level.
