Winding Roads of Orange Co (Medium)

Distance: 53 miles and 3000 feet of elevation gain (mapping software)

Both the long and the medium stay together for the first 20 miles. They both head southeast through Irvine and Lake Forest before splitting. While the long does an extra loop (and hill), this medium route cuts directly across to rejoin the long route as it rides up Oso Parkway. Lunch is near the top of Oso Parkway. After lunch we continue the long up-grade on Antonia Parkway to reach the peak at about mile 32. There is a second peak a few miles later, but then the route is mostly downhill as we ride back across Irvine to the finish. On the map below, the red is the common route with the long route and the blue indicates the short-cut of the medium route.  Note: Although both routes are listed as having 3000 feet of climbing, I think this medium actually has less because the long does a significant hill which the medium skips. This is probably just the difference between elevation gain based on riding the route with a barometric altimeter and taking the gain from the mapping software.
