Westlake – Potrero Canyon (Medium)

Distance: 45 miles and 2300 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

Both the long and the medium start together by heading directly over to Potrero Road and heading west on that road. After riding through Hidden Valley and a short climb out of the valley, we reach the featured downhill of the day and we whiz down the very steep portion of Potrero (the cliff at mile 12 on the profile). The two routes split shortly after the end of Potrero. While the long does a loop to the coast and back, this medium heads directly over to Camarillo where it is rejoined by the long for lunch. After lunch both routes ride Santa Rosa Road to the Moorpark area. A final climb takes us up and over the ridge between Moorpark and Thousand Oaks and back to the start. As you can see by the profile, the only major climb is the final climb near the end, but even this climb is only about 700 feet. This medium cuts off a lot of the miles of the long route, but does not cut off much of the climbing.
