Distance: 44 miles and 2600 feet of elevation gain (barometric)
While the medium starts with a climb up Benedict Canyon, this short skips that and instead rides through Hollywood, including a stretch down Hollywood Blvd, which is unusually quiet this morning. We then climb over Cahuenga to the valley. On the profile, the peak at mile 7.6 is the top of Cahuenga which is somewhat lower than the high point on the medium route. On Cahuenga we rejoin the medium route and the two routes are together the rest of the day. Both routes ride through Griffith Park and onto Riverside Dr. and over to Elysian Park. There is a short climb here (the bump on the profile at mile 18). After the park, we head over to Echo Park for the trip along Carroll Ave. There is a short but steep climb here, but viewing the homes is worth it. After that, we ride through downtown and take a break in Chinatown. Then it is a fairly straight ride back to the start past the many nice homes on 4th street. On the map, the blue indicates the unique start of this short route and the red is where the two routes are together.
