Firecracker Special (Long)

Distance: 41 miles and 800 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

All three routes are somewhat similar today. The long and the medium are identical except that near the end, this long makes a run up to the top of Signal Hill while the medium skips this. The routes start out looping around in the immediate area of the start. Then they head east for a while before turning south to the edge of Huntington Beach. After returning west to the coast, they follow the coast back north through Seal Beach and back into Long Beach and a stop in Belmont Shores for lunch (2 options). After lunch we tour a neighborhood of nice homes before heading off towards Signal Hill. This long breaks off from the medium to climb to the top of the hill. There is a nice little park up there with some terrific views of the harbor. After the stop at the park, it is a short ride back to the start. As you can see by the profile, the climb up Signal Hill is the only climb of the day and it tops out only about 300 feet above sea level. The profile makes it look steeper than it is.
