Ring Around The Valley (Long)

Distance: 53 miles and 1200 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

All routes make a counterclockwise trip around the Valley – the longer the route, the larger the loop. This long and the medium stay together for the first 24 miles as they first head north to the Sylmar area before turning west to ride past the San Fernando Mission. The two routes split and this long continues west a bit more to have lunch near Cal State Northridge. After lunch, the long swings south and then heads east to rejoin the medium for a loop through Balboa Park. After the Park, both routes ride past the mural in the Tujunga Wash and then head directly back to the start at the Zoo.  There are no major hills, but, as you can see by the profile, it is a steady up-grade to the high point at the northern edge of the Valley and then mostly downhill after that.
