We are bicyclists who enjoy riding with friends and seeing Los Angeles and Southern California on two wheels. We offer leisurely social rides and hard-charging challenging rides. Our policy is to stay together, keep track of everyone on the route, and help each other with flats and malfunctions. We put lunch stops on every route sheet. We welcome guests on all our rides.
Los Angeles Wheelmen members get together every Sunday morning for easy, moderate and more ambitious rides that start from various places in LA and OC and occasionally Ventura Counties. On Saturday mornings, a smaller group of riders meets for short, often tough, rides. We administer and record Century Challenge rides for cyclists to test themselves on 100-mile routes, and starting in 2016, 100-kilometer routes for the Metric Century Challenge. Many of our rides are on roads and trails you rarely otherwise visit. We post our route sheets on the website for download.
Our calendar is packed with special rides and events, highlighted in late June by our signature ride, The Grand Tour, a fully supported 24-hour Double Metric, Double Century, Triple and Quad. We hold the shorter “Grand Tour Lite” in the fall with routes between 70 and 125 miles. Throughout the year we invite cyclists to defy distance and gravity on other featured rides. At our social events, we make up the calories we burn while riding.
Newcomers and back-on-the-saddle returnees to bicycling who want to extend their range and their comfort on city streets should consider our (mostly) monthly “Newcomer Ride.” Check the schedule.
Guests are welcome on every ride. We also welcome out-of-town cyclists to contact us about riding together or getting our help in seeing our home town by bicycle. Please bring a signed waiver for your first ride to receive protections and benefits enjoyed by members on that ride. See Join the LA Wheelmen for additional information.
Helmets are mandatory on all rides.
