ABOUT THE LOS ANGELES WHEELMEN We are bicyclists who enjoy the pleasure of riding with friends. We are not a racing club, and we welcome members of all abilities. We offer easier, moderate and difficult rides. We hold some special rides, and in late June we offer the Grand Tour, a 24-hour ride of 120+, 200, 300 or 400 miles. At our social events, we make up for all the calories burned while riding. Our monthly newsletter, "The Gooseneck," contains a descriptive ride schedule and much other news. Newcomers are welcome to try a few of our rides before deciding whether to join. Helmets are mandatory on all rides. |

FIVE COUNTY CENTURY: OCTOBER 23, 2010 Our annual Five County Century takes riders through the wilds of Los Angeles, Kern, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. The ride starts in Lake of the Woods, near Gorman. Most hearty riders opt for the 101.9-mile century with 8,000 feet of climbing. This is NOT for a first-time century rider. Some riders choose the 88.5-mile option, which cuts 1,000 feet of elevation. Both rides feature beautiful scenery in this remote area: Look down on California’s Central Valley from nearly 6,000 feet. (Maybe see a condor or two.) Registration and ride payment are required. The supported ride features lunch and two snack/water stops. Participation is limited to 75 people. Check back at this website later this month or in October for details. |
| Century Challenge This is another way to challenge yourself and/or compete with other club members. We've updated the challenge from last year and added options.
